       The Bands!!

Original  •  Dynamic  •  Creative  •  Diverse  •  Captivating

These are easy words to throw around. Sometimes, however, they just plain fit. These are the things you hear when audiences, critics and other musicians are describing SAWMILL ROAD. It is an amazing collection of seasoned players who perform at a level that always brings a powerful mixture of bluegrass styles to any stage.

What folks are saying about SAWMILL ROAD and their debut cd! :

I am the proud recipient of Sawmill Road’s debut, an album that oozes with sparkle and originality and captures the essence of an undeniably hot, killer new bluegrass band. Dave Higgs, Nashville NPR

As the thriving Bluegrass music field gets crowded, it’s a challenge for bands to find something to do that is different, yet solidly bluegrassy, and not the same-old, same-old. Call it “original;” it’s hard to achieve, but all the great bands have it. Well, congratulations to my old pals in Sawmill Road, who’ve just reorganized and recorded a new project, and just made themselves into one powerful, beautiful, and yes, original bluegrass band. I don’t know what the coach said in the locker room at half time, but these guys have hit the field all inspired and ready to knock your socks off. Trust me on this, pal: you want to hear Sawmill Road. – Dan Crary

SAWMILL ROAD just won the National Bluegrass playoffs at the Huck Finn Bluegrass Jubilee and will be showcasing at the 2008 IBMA convention in Nashville!

Sidesaddle & Co.

Sidesaddle & Co., based in San Jose California, has been captivating audiences with their unique acoustic sound since 1979 when the band was first established. The five members of the band come from an interesting variety of musical backgrounds, which come alive in their repertoire of primarily traditional Bluegrass music, seasoned with vintage Country, Irish, Cajun and Cowboy Western. Their popularity is extended further by including Gospel, Folk, Novelty and Comedy. Billboard Magazine has called their music "superbly melodic." Critics have hailed their performances as "sophisticated and highly entertaining" and their harmonies "impeccable."

Wild Creek

Local music reveiwer, Couzin' Jim Lappin wrote: "One of our fine "home-grown" bands here in Northern Nevada is Wild Creek."   With Randy McKnight on mandolin, Allen Hendricks on banjo, Joyce Furlong on bass and Don Timmer on guitar,  "Wild Creek delivers a fresh and vibrant sound." Don and Joyce's "great harmonies are heard on many of the songs, along with Randy McKnight's tight baritone".  Wild Creek is a local favorite, we couldn't agree more.

The Bar BQ Boys

The Bar BQ Boyz came together in the Fall of 2005, forming a bluegrass set-up that includes Paul Cutunilli on mandolin, Bobby Smile on guitar, Johnny Walter on stand-up bass and Michael Chambon on banjo. In addition to the instruments named, Walter plays blues harmonica, Cutunilli plays the bass, and Smile and Chambon both play the dobro.   Their repertoire includes bluegrass standards like Bill Monroe's "Walls of Time," as well as tunes from the popular movie "Oh Brother, Where art Thou?" On the heels of the camp classic, "The Ballad of Jed Clampett," (a.k.a., "The Beverly Hillbillies") they are likely to break out with a Led Zeppelin tune, or "All Along the Watchtower," written by Dylan and popularized by Jimi Hendrix. Grateful Dead or Johnny Cash might follow, with Bob Marley's reggae beat close behind.

Wild Horse Drive

Dan Baker, Jim Denoncourt, Chad Bowen, and Dwayne Carroll - four guys with lots of talent!  Although Wild Horse Drive is fairly new on the local bluegrass scene, these musicians have many combined years of pickin' - and it shows!  With their great harmony and deft fingers at the frets, this band is fast becoming a local favorite.  Check out a sample of their sound at:

The NNBA's own Monday Night Volunteers

The NNBA Monday Night Volunteers have been around for over 15 years.  Their talented members donate their time and skills year-round to raise funds for the NNBA and often say they have at least as much fun as their audiences!  You will find them performing on Nevada Day at the Governor's Chili Feed, at local  campgrounds, parks, benefits and nursing homes.    They traditionally kick off each Bower's Mansion Bluegrass Festival with a rousing repertoire sure to get things hopping with the very first song!
